The South Baldwin Chamber Foundation’s EPIC Program (Entrepreneur Program Impacting Communities) kicked off the new year with an engaging January session focused on two critical components of any successful business: marketing and customer service.

Students had the opportunity to hear from Tara McMeans, owner of Design Print Promote, and Amy Elliott, a seasoned Disney-trained customer service professional. Together, they delivered practical insight and a powerful perspective for aspiring young entrepreneurs.

Standing Out in a Crowded Market

Tara challenged students to think beyond traditional marketing. Known for her creative and out-of-the-box approach, she emphasized that successful marketing is about more than logos and social media posts; it’s about creating an experience people remember.

She encouraged students to think about how their brand makes people feel and how thoughtful, unexpected touches can leave lasting impressions. In today’s competitive business environment, memorability matters. Whether through creative promotions, unique packaging, or personalized interactions, Tara reminded students that the businesses that stand out are the ones that dare to be different.

The Magic of True Customer Service

Amy Elliott followed with a powerful message on customer service rooted in her Disney training experience. She spoke about what it truly means to serve others, not just completing a transaction, but intentionally making each person feel seen, valued, and important.

Her message was simple yet impactful: when you make one customer feel special, you don’t just gain a sale — you often gain a loyal supporter who returns again and again.

Amy explained that repeat customers are built through consistency, care, and genuine connection. A positive experience can ripple outward, leading to word-of-mouth referrals and long-term business growth.

Building Businesses That Last

For EPIC students developing their own business ideas, the January session reinforced an important truth: great businesses are built at the intersection of strong branding and meaningful relationships.

Marketing may bring customers in the door, but exceptional service keeps them coming back.

We are grateful to Tara and Amy for investing their time and wisdom into the next generation of entrepreneurs. Through speakers like these, EPIC continues to provide students with real-world insight, practical tools, and the confidence to build businesses that make an impact in our community.
